An Indian-made rocket has been launched from a web site north of Chennai, carrying two satellites that may check space-docking.
Docking is necessary for a manned journey to the Moon or to help an area station.
Saying the “profitable achievement” of the launch, Indian House Analysis Group chief Sridhara Somnath stated the rocket “positioned the satellites within the right orbit”.
Each spacecraft started testing procedures on Tuesday and last docking will happen round January 7.
After Russia, US and China, India hopes to turn out to be the fourth nation to have such expertise.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has earlier introduced a plan to ship a person to the moon by 2040.
