CEC postpones native authorities council elections in Islamabad after legislation amendments

ISLAMABAD: Following amendments to the Islamabad Capital Territory Native Authorities Act, 2015, the Election Fee of Pakistan has postponed the native physique elections, which had been scheduled to be held on October 9, till additional discover.

In the meantime, the modification to Article 17 changed the phrase “Illustration of the Individuals Act, 1976” with the Electoral Act, 2017.

One other modification to Article 11 said that there could be a md and vice-chairman of the union council as joint candidates, 9 common members, one girl, one farmer, employee, businessman or technocrat, one youth member and one non-Muslim member.

Earlier, the Election Fee – in response to requests from political events – rescheduled the elections to October 9 as a substitute of September 29.

“To facilitate the participation of assorted political events and potential candidates within the electoral course of and supply them with all potential amenities, the Election Fee has formally notified the revised election programme, in keeping with which polling will now be held on October 9, 2024,” an announcement stated.
